Google Adwords Breakthrough! Slash Your PPC Budget And Easily Find More Eager Buyers!
I have said many times before that using Adwords (or indeed any PPC medium) to drive traffic is a double edged sword.

Yes, you can drive large amounts of traffic, but if you don't know what you are doing it can cost you a ridiculous amount of money. My first attempt at using Adwords cost me £1,376 (yes, GB Pounds) for two sales totally £137 - ouch!

It took me a long time to work out basic Adwords using the text ads, and I have to thank two people for that. Firstly Stewart MacKay of the now sadly defunct Adwords Excellence and secondly Armand Morin. These guys taught me how to use Adwords properly, how to structure my ad groups and also taught me new techniques which is what I am going to talk about here.

I am going to talk about using Placement ads within Adwords. Placement targeting as it's called.

So, what is placement targeting?

Quite simply putting up a placement targeted ad allows you to advertise on any number of individual sites you designate within the Google advertising network.

It allows you to choose where your ads are actually shown, in fact you can pick the sites yourself! If a site has Google based advertising on it (an Adsense module), you can designate it as a site you want to advertise on...you are in control.

You do this through the normal Adwords advertiser interface and pick "placement" at campaign level.

You can also allow Google to pick the sites for you based on keywords.

The bottom line in placement targeting is that you want your ads to appear on sites that are relevant to what you have to offer. Obvious I know, but I thought I ought to say it just to make sure!

So, how do you find the sites you want to advertise on?

Well, you can type your keywords into Google and then trawl through every site and look for sites with Adsense modules on them. You would find relevant sites and you would paste them into notepad and then when you have found enough, copy and paste that list into your campaign.

But, we don't want to do that!

It's long winded, messy and hugely time consuming!

With Placement Locator, all you do is copy and paste your keywords in and Placement Locator then goes and finds all of the relevant sites you can places ads on automatically.




















All you do is enter the keywords and then leave Placement Locator to find the sites for you in the background while you get on with other work. Ir's a simple two step process.

What makes this such a great time saver is that Placement Locator also shows you exactly what type of ad is on each page. For example, if the page has a 250 x 250 Adsense module, placement locator will tell you that.

Why is that important? Well think about it. Say you decide that the site is one that you very much want to advertise on. In that case you will know you need to have either text ads or a 250 x 250 image ad to get a placement on that site.

This is such powerful information in allowing you to make the best of your advertising budget.

And, talking of advertising budgets, another great reason to use Placement Targeted ads is that the cost per click you will pay is far, far below that which you'd pay for normal Adwords ads in the sponsored listings.

What I have also found is that Placement ads are more likely to produce buyers as they are interested in the subject matter because they are on a related site. It's like people click through to your site because it was THEIR idea! That removes a lot of the buying barriers and is why these types of ads do convert!

O.K, you have to make sure your ad captures their attention and the click through rate is generally low, but, the clicks are cheaper and the buy ratio is better once you've got the click.

And, you are not left so much at the mercy of Google when Placement advertising. Yes, you still have to be relevant, but the rules are nowhere near as strict.

All in all, for my money advertising on the Placement network is a very good deal. And, it's Placement Locator that helps to make it such an attractive proposition because it allows me to find the best sites to advertise on so quickly and efficiently. The time saving is immense, and I find ALL of the relevant sites to advertise on - something that would be impossible using the manual route!
